Out of the wilderness of elm leaves,
saplings, delicate warriors,
three-armed, four-armed, five-armed,
appear after winter.
Elsewhere in the carpeted brown,
dainty snowdrops nod sleepily
as if they can’t shake off winter.
A little further, robins strut on the brown foliage
that sports ruffled acorns.
In the distance, stark trees
with red tinged branches, and beyond a line of green
that will expand in the weeks to come.
