Long a part of the foreign-based electorate,
living and working in Sweden, my American son,
his apartment all of a sudden infested
with moths, his favorite rug in pieces, overrun,
out of necessity quickly earned a doctorate
in lepidopteran eradication
as he was forced to spring into action
to discover everywhere they’d nested.
But now, having successfully wiped them out,
he sees a parallel back home, and prays
that someone—anyone—with clout
(a Senator perhaps) will rise above the fray,
dig deep, find the courage to take a stand,
begin to mend the tattered fabric of his land.
