Systems
It has become
cliché
To note
the system is broken.
It has become accepted
that institutions
are utterly
failed.
It is clear to anyone
that technology
is not the bottleneck,
nor the key.
And the air
has become
so lovely
and clear
and breathable
that the high mountains
are visible
from the great cities.
Weekend
My boy shouts
“The weekend!”
I manage a
grunted smile.
I manage to
roll over in bed.
He is up and
running everywhere.
He is yelling and
moving his arms.
His still thin
muscly arms.
His beautiful boy
yelling.
He is (nearly) immune
to all the insane news.
Calendar
The family calendar
sits neglected
and seemingly
wary.
It has not been
touched
with pen or marker
or thought.
It has never been
so blank
so clean
so white.
The calendar shows
no outside
activity
reveals nothing.
A whole month
that we will
remember for our lives
as tough and fortunate.
