[38] Speeding Ticket, Paul Rabinowitz

Ode to my speeding ticket
proving that a man my age can still be reckless
and do what he wants when he feels like it
without any care of consequence

flashing me back to the days of rebellious youth
when I dropped my first hit of acid with my best friend
at his parent’s formal dinner party

told my girlfriend I’ll go there if she goes there,
and without any thought risked a year in military prison
threatening the captain who put my brothers at too much risk

Now with this speeding ticket I return to recklessness
wait ’till the last day permitted without penalty to send my check
placing the stamp horizontal
