[34] The First Day of Winter, Michael Brownstein

arrived with a storm of sunshine and grace,
a river of silk skin and rapids full of onion
across a valley of limbs, an echo
and somewhere the triumph of tears and softness:
sun surfing across wind, a point of light
as water breaks on the sand,
another star gazer, another full moon,
Mercury at the edge of life.
